Trees are a material consideration within the planning process. Planning applications for building extensions and development, where trees are present on-site or nearby, are generally required to include an arboricultural survey in accordance with British Standard 5837:2012 (Trees in relation to design, demolition and construction – recommendations). In January 2024, the onus on developers to demonstrate an additional minimum 10% wildlife enhancement, became a statutory requirement within the planning framework, through the introduction of Biodiversity Net Gain (BNG).

Future Arbor specialise in supporting development. We work to combine the requirements of BS5837 and Biodiversity Net Gain, helping developers and architects understand the initial site constraints and working with all parties to ensure a positive planning resolution.

BS5837 tree surveys and the statutory requirement of Biodiversity Net Gain are not mutually exclusive and there is a significant cross-over in the information required by both. It is for this reason that Future Arbor have worked hard to ensure that they can offer a stream-lined solution on behalf of our clients, saving you time and simplifying the BNG planning process in a convenient and cost-effective manner.
